“Do you know Love?
Love is abandoning “me”, “we”
And all assertions of “being”
Dissolving all desires and beauty
In the Creator of Beauty”
RUMI

The program, filled with heart-stimulating live music and dance, is designed to induce a meditative state on the love of God. The music, containing core elements of Sufi music, serves mainly as accompaniment for poems of Rumi and other Sufi poets. The captivating dance of the whirling dervishes, which displays infinite spinning in perfect harmony, is part of Turkish custom, history, beliefs and culture.

The Mevlevi order was established on the teachings of Mevlâna Jalâluddîn Rumi in the late 13th century. Rumi, whose name represents love and ecstatic flight into the infinite, continues to provide wisdom and enchantment through his timeless poems, books and teachings. In recent years, Jalâluddîn Rumi has been a best-selling poet in America. In addition to that, UNESCO announced 2007 as the UNESCO year of Mevlâna Rumi associated with the 800th anniversary of the birth of Mevlâna.
Konya, Turkey is where Rumi spent most of his life and is his final resting place. His tomb and the spiritual center surrounding it are visited by tens of thousands of tourists from around the world every year. Due to their growing popularity and world acclaim, the Konya Whirling Dervishes have performed in Switzerland and throughout Turkey as well as many U.S. cities.
